Butternut Squash

Type:

Fruit

Difficulty:

Moderate

Planting Timelines

    - Sow seeds upright in 2cm holes in compost in either pots, containers or cell trays indoors
    - Cover with compost, pat down and water
    - Once the first true leaves have shown, seedlings can be transplanted to larger pots or containers
    - Once larger than 8inches tall, the plants can be transferred to 12inch containers or direct to soil beds
    - Make sure not to over or under water the plants. You can check by putting your hand under the top soil to see if it is still moist (if dry, feel free to water)
    - When the squash is fully mature, cut the vine about 6 inches either side of the stem to preserve it for longer if not eating immediately
